Family Preservation Services are short-term, family-focused services designed to assist families in crisis by improving parenting and family functioning while keeping children safe. These services build upon the conviction that the best place for children is with their own families and that many children can reside safely within their own homes when parents are provided with supportive services that encourage them to changes their lives.
The goal of the Family Preservation Services (FPS) program is to protect children while preserving families by preventing unnecessary placement of children.
FPS offers intensive in-home counseling, support, casework, assistance securing concrete services, education, and crisis intervention services to families.
Services are available in:
Erie, Crawford, Venango, and Mercer Counties
Who Should Be Referred?
- Families with children birth to eighteen years and currently receiving services from county Children and Youth Services, either open at intake or open for on-going services
- The placement of the child appears imminent
- At least one parent/caretaker with whom the child resides consents to work with the intensive service
- Family members agree that they are in a crisis and they permit services in their home at least 2 time per week
County Children and Youth staff must make the referral.
