How to Become a Foster Parent

Step 1: Learn More
If you're interested in becoming a foster parent, call Family Services of NW PA at 814-866-4500 (Erie County) to inquire about services. You will be referred to a Permanency Specialist who can answer all your questions and help you start the process.

Step 2: Application
Once you've decided to begin the process of becoming a foster parent, you will be invited to complete an application. At this time you will also begin submitting the required background checks and clearances.

Step 3: Training
We offer free training to all potential foster parents. You will have the opportunity to learn more about children in case and ask any questions you might have.

Step 4: Home Visit
Together, we will schedule a time to meet with you and your family in your home.

Step 5: Gather Remaining Information
Once the home visit is completed, we will gather any additional information needed to complete the process.

Step 6: Approval
