Position Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist, Project SOAR/ROAR

Reports To: Project SOAR/ROAR Clinical Manager

This position is responsible for managing a case load of up to twenty-five (25) students and has the ability to provide interventions for any student. Provides direct services to individuals and families on assigned case load, coordinates case effects with funding source and related agencies. Day and evening driving to County areas is required. Access to reliable transportation is essential. Worker should be skilled with treatment plan development, skilled with individual and group therapy, skilled with the application of Behavioral Modification, knowledgeable of Functional Behavioral Assessment, knowledgeable of a variety of standardized assessment tools, and has knowledge of child development. Worker should be able to effectively manage self in crisis situations (violence, physical aggression, etc.). Workers should be able to work within the context of a family setting. Worker must be able to follow a prescribed treatment plan.

Examples of Tasks Performed and Work Assigned:

  1. Designs behavioral interventions in collaboration with the family, treatment team, and schools for a maximum of twenty-five (25) students.
  2. Performs treatment/crisis/disposition plan development for a maximum of twenty-five (25) students.
  3. Provides individual therapy.
  4. Provides supervision of psycho-educational groups.
  5. Provides Face-to-face school or community and/or telephone contact with student's primary caregiver(s) a minimum of one to a maximum of four times per month.
  6. Provides crisis intervention.
  7. Attends and directs team meetings.
  8. Participates in individual, peer and overall agency supervisory and staff development activities.
  9. Supports the ongoing assessment of school building acuity and distribution of BHT (ongoing review of student acuity and appropriate staffing ratio of 1:2-5).
  10. Provides clinical guidance for the BHT.
  11. Acts as the administrative and clinical liaison to the SBBH school district administration, family and community.
  12. Performs data collection and model evaluation.
  13. Maintains students' behavioral health paperwork/records.
  14. Develops program curriculum.
  15. Attends and implements the four-step psycho-education for monthly Family Night.
  16. Participates in the annual SBBH trainings.
  17. Interacts with primary, external and internal customers of the agency in such a manner that the customer experiences increasing quality; participates as a member of a Quality team.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

As the caseload of twenty-five (25) students builds, the BIS could deliver direct care by functioning as both a BIS and BHT. As the caseload builds, the BIS functions will taper until the caseload of twenty-five (25) students is achieved. When functioning as a BHT, the BIS is responsible for the following:

  • Implements school-based treatment behavioral health treatment plans
  • Tracks measurable objectives.
  • Documents treatment activities and responses.
  • Communicates overall progress through written and oral reports.
  • Attends clinical team meetings.
  • Maintains students' behavioral health paperwork/records.
  • Attends and implements the four-step psycho education for monthly Family Night.

Required Education/Experience:

Master degree in a mental health field; has a minimum of three years clinical clinical experience including working in a CASSP system and mental health services agency, experience in the application of Behavioral Modification that should include knowledge of Functional Behavioral Assessment and knowledge of child development. Family systems therapy training and/or experience is highly preferred but not required.
